We have chosen a digital photography workshop as our flagship course this first summer.
We are offering two weekend long workshops with renowned photographer, teacher and retired California State Parks Ranger, Bob Grace.

Digital Photography Adventure – Moderate Hiking July 9th – 11th, 2010 (Manzanita Lake Area) August 27th – 29th, 2010 (Warner Valley & Drakesbad Area) Instructor: Bob Grace Price: $350 per course

Pack up your digital SLR camera and prepare for two and half days of outdoor adventure and beauty in Lassen Volcanic National Park. Participants will enjoy an initial evening of orientation, light beverages and snacks, and the unique opportunity of access to areas of the Park not typically available at that time. The weekend will include opportunities to experience and view Lassen Volcanic through professionally led nature photography. Don’t miss this chance to be one of the first to share this momentous experience.

Price includes: Pre-trip planning help, course registration, course materials, two and a half days of professional instruction, a complimentary Park entrance fee waiver and a lifetime of memories.

Course Description: Overview and introduction of course, understanding composition and lighting, sunrise shoot including camera shooting techniques, Photoshop demonstrations, computer-based shoot planning, Adobe camera raw workflow, sunset shoot with light painting demo, shooting and processing panoramas, shooting and processing HDR and image review and critique.

Participants are responsible for camera gear, food, lodging, transportation and any Park fees (Park entrance fee waivers are included in registration fee). Participants should be prepared for moderate hiking beginning at an elevation of 6,000 feet and ascending to approximately 7,000 feet. Participants should be in good physical health and prepared for the effects of high altitude, extreme changes in weather, uneven and changing mountainous terrain, hydrothermal activity, and wildlife.

Digital Photography Instructor – Bob Grace

Following a thirty-year career as a California State Park Ranger, Bob Grace began working as a Professional Assignment photographer in 2000. His work has appeared in books, magazines, newspapers, and websites as well as in several prestigious exhibitions.

He is also the Photography Instructor for our local Department of Parks and Recreation. During his years as a California State Park Ranger he developed his own personal sense of environmental place while gaining knowledge of local flora, fauna, and resource protection. He brings many levels of skill and experience photographing the natural and cultural world to his outdoor classroom.
